Day 21: Prayer for Your Husband

Good Morning Girls,

Is anyone planning to head to church today? I am! I am breaking my "I hate Sundays" cycle!

As I mentioned yesterday the next few days are focused on prayer. Yesterday we learned about humbling ourselves and praying for ourselves. Today Jennifer discusses the importance of praying for your husband. The focus verses for today are so fitting.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Do you girls pray for your husband regularly? I could certainly stand to do more praying for Justin. Somethings I can pray for him are job opportunities, safety at work, his leadership in our marriage, and against the evil schemes that plot and try to attack/destroy our marriage. Jennifer also mentions encouraging your husband. I like to send Justin texts during his breaks with Bible verses or just let him know I love him and am thinking of him. I sometimes leave post in notes for him to get in the mornings before work. It doesn't really work out for us to pray together in the mornings before work because our schedules are so opposite, though.
I truly believe in the power of prayer. I think there is something so powerful in knowing someone is praying for you. Has anyone talked with their husbands about praying together or invited your husband to pray with you? It is such a powerful action to pray together. I will tell you this... As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I was really discouraged this week and spent time asking God why a lot. Justin and I argued a lot more than we have been. Then I realized... we had been doing the devotional we do each night, but we had been neglecting our prayer time together. Satan will use any and every chance he sees to attack your marriage and through flaming darts at it. I love that Jennifer refers to prayer as our weapon against such attacks. I am slowly starting to recognize them more and more. The more I pray, the more Satan cringes, the more I recognize the evil schemes and the more I know how vital prayer is to my marriage and my daily life.

  1. On another note... Are you girls interested in choosing another study to do once this one is finished? Trista mentioned the Daniel Plan which seems really appropriate with lint and the Easter season approaching. It's focus is faith, fitness, food, focus, and friends. I know we are all interested in living a healthy lifestyle and using our bodies (God's temple) for His Will. Below is a link about the book. I think lint begins the first week or so of March so we would have a break before we would start something up again. Thoughts?

    1. I'm 100% doing this, so please join me so we can fulfill the "friends" portion of it! I will get more information about the structure and such. There is a group study portion of the plan. Here is the link to the webpage so you can read up if you're interested. https://www.danielplan.com/start/

And here is the group study link: http://store.danielplan.com/group-study/ I'm not sure if all of us would need to purchase that or not. I'll look into it.

Either way, I'd love to have you guys join me!

  2. Happy Sunday - and day of rest! (Although not so restful in my house!)

I loved today's verse from James 5:13-16 (verse 16 specifically).. "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

Honestly, I rarely prayed for Torey's needs until now. I didn't really even see that they existed until Jennifer showed me that his needs are equally as important to mine in strengthening our relationships with God and with each other. It works to deepen our intimacy with each other and with God and invites God in to do His work (His will) in our marriage. When I did my challenge today, I found so many things that I could have been praying for Torey for all along. I just didn't have the wake up call until today. Pretty powerful stuff. I also think that if I pray for Torey each day that submitting to him will be easier and easier to do. Also, looking to him as a spiritual leader for our family will be an easier thing to do.

As far as praying together, Trina, Torey and I never really have done that. Maybe I could count on one hand how many times we have prayed together in the past. BUT, a day or two before he left on his trip he invited me to pray with him before we went to bed. It was really nice and I plan to ask him if we can continue that when he comes home. :-)

  3. I have always prayed for my family and friends, including my husband on a regular basis. However, I did not specifically pray for his needs. In fact, before today's devotional, I never realized that I often do not even think of my husband's needs. What are his needs? I am not sure that I know all of them. Tonight, it is my goal to find out. Once I know his needs, I will be able to pray for him wholeheartedly as God has instructed us to do. I have faith that this devotional will strengthen our marriage. I have already seen some significant progress, and I can't wait to see what will happen once the entire devotional is finished!
